CRIMSON PEAK ☾ ghosts are real. this much i know. there are things that tie them to a place, very much like they do to us. some remain tethered to a patch of land, a time and date, the spilling of blood, a terrible crime. there are others…others that hold onto an emotion, a drive, loss, revenge, or love. those…they never go away.

god im reading a text about romance fiction (especially targeted at young adults) for class and one sentence in it literally made my brain explode because ive been thinking about this kind of stuff too, how “Many people wouldn’t fall in love if they’ve never heard about it before.” and like…imagine there was no ideal/overaccentuated image of love and romance painted in postmodern mass media….how would we love? would it be purer? more authentic? what would we do differently? would we fall in love at all if we werent constantly being fed an ideal concept of love as the norm in mass media? like what is a natural process of human feelings and what is just a projection of how we want to love and want to be loved based on what we’ve seen on tv and read in books etc? in this essay i will

w … wh … where’s the rest of the essay, op?

love isn’t the issue. it’s the fact that we’ve rolled up a bunch of things (affection, sexual attraction, sexual intimacy, compatibility, emotional intimacy, vulnerability, romantic attraction, tenderness, caregiving, fun, sexual exclusivity, romantic exclusivity, friendship, self-sacrifice, general fucking emotional intimacy and care) into one tangled mess that we call “Love”

i kinda prefer how the ancient greeks approached it. there are a lot of ways to love people. most people will experience most of them over the course of their lives. not all, necessarily, and not all with the same person. we would still love each other if we didn’t have a script; that’s hard-wired. but how we love each other and what love looks like, what kinds of love we value and what kinds we don’t… that’s cultural

For those of you who may not be aware, in Scotland there is an officially registered tartan called Pride of LGBT.

@thebibliosphere

This is so cool, because tartan patterns were originally family symbols. Almost every Scottish clan has a unique one. Even my family has one. It’s like saying LGBT+ is a family, one you can belong to even if your blood family doesn’t accept you.

Um, I'mma need a kilt in this tartan like YESTERDAY.

This is pretty damn cool.

there’s also jewish tartan

*alleviates your anxiety by replacing it with new, less relevant anxiety”

*distracts you from the state of the world by giving you a phobia of blue whales*

Gaud its just a whale. Have you ever met a blue whale? It won’t hurt you.

listen fucker, whale songs can be twice as loud as a fucking jet engine, more than loud enough to burst eardrums, paralyze limbs and cause organ damage at close range. sperm whales, the loudest animal on the planet, could literally vibrate a human body to death. the sheer fact they don’t is either ignorance, choice, or lack of opportunity–not inability. as for blue whales (aka the biggest creature to exist ever despite the fact that megafauna roamed the earth for tens of millions of years before these fucks came around), well a blue whale’s corpse is capable of literally exploding from gas buildup. and that’s not even getting into my extreme visceral discomfort surrounding whale falls aka the process of a whale carcass falling abyssal depths of thousands and thousands of feet, just falling through the fucking water to the ocean floor and creating a complex localized ecosystem capable of sustaining who-knows-what kind of deep-sea terrors for decades, so kindly get fucked.

Shoutout to, like, 14 year old me who thought he was bi cause he felt 0 attraction to men and 0 attraction to women and 0=0 which is equal attraction THEREFORE I was surely equally attracted to both men and women and, thus, bisexual, thank you for coming to my tedtalk

Fun Fact! Back in the Olden Days, the bisexual community welcomed asexuals for this exact reason!
